Cain Lamarre is proud to have participated in the creation of Atenro S.E.C., an entity composed of four First Nations, and represented them in the acquisition of a majority stake in the Hilton Hotel in Quebec City. The announcement of this momentous transaction involving the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach, the Cree Nation, the Huron-Wendat Nation and the Mi’gmaq of Gespe’gewa’gi will go down in history.
Under the guidance of partners Pascal Porlier, Stéphane Lalande, Antoine Michaud-Soret and Patrice Picard, a team of more than 20 professionals from our law firm collaborated on this transaction. The majority of our offices took part in the transaction, which involved numerous practice groups: Aboriginal Law, Tax Law, Real Estate Law, Real Estate and Institutional Financing, Business Law, Environmental Law, Franchise Law, Municipal Law and Labour Law.
Cain Lamarre assisted the First Nations with creating their new entity and negotiating the agreement, as well as advising them on equity financing.
“This acquisition is a concrete example of how First Nations can play a key role in Quebec’s economic development, while preserving and enhancing their unique cultural heritage. The development of our communities also requires strategic investments outside the territory.”
– Louise Nattawappio, Chief of the Naskapi Nation
“We are honoured to contribute to the success of the First Nations and their key role in Quebec’s economic development by providing them with legal counsel.”
– Pascal Porlier
