The Honourable André Wery was a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec for nearly 26 years, including eight years as Associate Chief Justice. In 2024, he joined Cain Lamarre as a strategic adviser.
Before joining the judiciary, he practised litigation for almost 22 years with a major law firm, where he worked closely with the renowned Pierre A. Michaud, who later became Chief Justice of the Quebec Court of Appeal.
The Honourable André Wery held numerous positions at that firm, including sitting on the Management Committee, the Compensation Committee and the Conflicts of Interest Committee. He was elected to the Board of Directors twice and sat on the Executive Committee as head of professional affairs until his appointment to the Superior Court.
Having sat for almost 26 years in all the chambers of the Court, with the exception of the criminal division, the Honourable André Wery has been called upon to hear cases in many areas of Law, including Civil, Contractual, Commercial and Banking Law, life insurance, damage insurance, civil and professional liability, injunctions, class actions, Family Law, Construction Law and Employment Law.
Since retiring from the judiciary, he has focused on developing his arbitration and mediation practice. He also acts as a strategic adviser in major cases requiring a high level of holistic legal expertise.
With nearly 47 years’ experience as a litigation lawyer and trial judge, the Honourable André Wery has extensive, wide-ranging expertise in dispute resolution through both arbitration and mediation. He is also able to provide strategic advice in the conduct of judicial and arbitral proceedings, combining an efficient procedural approach with thorough preparation and effective presentation of evidence and legal arguments at trial.
