Caroline Desbiens has over 35 years of legal experience in private practice. She is a bilingual lawyer who practises mainly in Business and Aviation Law, with extensive experience in a wide range of sectors including transportation, real estate, energy, life sciences, technology and the agri-food industry. She also contributes her expertise in aviation and maritime law to our transportation team.
A skilled negotiator, Ms. Desbiens is renowned for her expertise in corporate and commercial law, including the drafting of complex commercial contracts, mergers and acquisitions, corporate financing—including private equity and venture capital—strategic alliances, and service, supply, franchise and distribution contracts.
She has served as a member of the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada since 1994, enabling her to acquire in-depth knowledge of this field’s unique regulatory aspects. She supports her clients through all regulatory procedures related to the aeronautics industry and helps them obtain various permits. She advises companies and professionals in the aviation sector, including carriers, maintenance organizations, operators, suppliers of aeronautics products or services, holders of Canadian aviation documents and lenders. She negotiates and drafts contracts of all types related to the aviation industry, including sales, leasing, co-ownership and aircraft management. She also represents creditors and borrowers in aircraft financing, including international interests in aircraft objects under the Cape Town Convention. She also has experience in Maritime Law, particularly in transactional matters such as vessel sales and financing and chartering contracts.
Prior to joining Cain Lamarre, Ms. Desbiens worked for an international law firm. Her expertise in Aviation Law and Mergers and Acquisitions has also been recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada.
