Richard Gauthier

Richard Gauthier was called to the Bar in 1978, and joined the Cain Lamarre team in 2018. His practice focuses on labour and employment law, in which he acts as a legal adviser, negotiator and litigator. With extensive experience in union certifications and labour disputes, his practice covers all aspects of labour relations. Since 2001, Mr. Gauthier has concentrated exclusively on employer representation.

He is known for his ability to identify issues and find innovative solutions, particularly in grievance arbitration and employment injury matters. His strength lies in planning out the structure of the trial, including the examination of witnesses and closing arguments.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Gauthier has pleaded before all the relevant judicial bodies. He has frequently been called upon to teach courses and give lectures in the mining, industrial, university and health sectors. He has been a professor at the Quebec Bar School, and has taught courses on labour law at Université Laval’s Faculty of Law. He has also contributed to the Quebec City section of the Bar. Among his accomplishments are several conferences on psychological harassment in the workplace and the responsibility of the company and its executives with regards to occupational health and safety. 

A Law graduate of Université Laval, Mr. Gauthier is actively involved in his community. He was chair of the board of directors for the Centre de prévention du suicide de Québec and its foundation, a cause that is particularly close to his heart. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Fondation Victorin Germain.
