Me Olivier Hamel has a law degree from Université Laval and a degree in international relations and public affairs from the same institution. He has been practicing business law in Cain Lamarre’s Quebec office since 2016. His practice is focused on intellectual property, protection of personal information, and commercial and corporate law.
As a trademark agent registered with the College of Patent Agents and Trademark Agents (CPATA), he advises businesses in the protection of their trademarks. More specifically, he develops protection strategies and is involved in the registration procedures, the management of trademark portfolios, and in the defence of trademark owner rights. Me Hamel has worked on important cases, notably a case before the Federal Court relating to the violation of rights to a registered trademark of a major Quebec recreational vehicle dealership.
A member of Cain Lamarre's team for the protection of personal information, he accompanies businesses in their efforts to comply with the various laws applicable to the protection of personal information in Quebec and Canada.
In commercial and corporate law, he has been involved in various transactions and corporate reorganizations and in the drafting of contractual agreements and legal opinions for a clientele essentially made up of private corporations, Crown corporations, cooperatives, and educational institutions. He also specializes in non-profit legal persons and regularly offers training relating to governance and the grouping of non-profit legal persons.
During his studies at Université Laval, he was a research and teaching assistant to several members of the Centre d'études en droit économique (CÉDÉ) and was a page at the Quebec National Assembly.
Active in his community, he has been sitting on the board of directors of the Fondation Maison Dauphine since 2024, was a member of the board of directors for the Société Protectrice des Animaux de Québec (SPA) in 2020-2021, and has been involved with L'A-DROIT in Chaudière-Appalaches for ten years (2014 to 2024) as part of the legal committee.
