We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Me François Lamarre, founding partner of Cain Lamarre, on February 5, 2024, at the age of 86, after a long and distinguished career as a lawyer.
A native of Jonquière, Saguenay, he studied law at Université Laval and the London School of Economics. He practiced litigation with remarkable success before the courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada, which quickly earned him an excellent reputation in civil liability, particularly insurance, and in many other areas of legal practice.
He was a long-standing partner of Me Lucien Bouchard and a pillar of the Saguenay firm Fradette Bergeron Cain et Bouchard, which eventually led to the formation of Cain Lamarre, an office that today boasts 550 members in 14 places of business.
With his legendary boldness, Mr. Lamarre was the driving force behind the establishment of Cain Lamarre Wells in Montreal in 1989.
He was recognized for his determination, legal acumen and sensitivity to inequity and injustice. He was a revered and formidable litigator whose recipe for success was rooted in hard work and meticulousness.
“It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Me François Lamarre. A founding member of our firm, he contributed to its success by infusing it with a deep sense of humanity and unwavering commitment to the community. François will be sorely missed, both professionally and personally. We offer our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones and offer our steadfast support in this difficult time,” says Yvan Bujold, President of Cain Lamarre.
Me Lamarre is survived by his wife Louise Fradette, his children Éric, Valérie and Anne-Louise, as well as four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
A great page in the history of Cain Lamarre is being turned today with the departure of this man whose tireless work and profound values have helped shape who we are.
Thank you, Me Lamarre!
