We are seeking a legal assistant specializing in civil and commercial litigation to join the team at our Gatineau office.

THE PROFILE THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The person we are looking for stands out for their attention to detail and excellent organizational skills, which enable them to effectively manage multiple cases simultaneously. They know how to prioritize effectively while demonstrating versatility in their day-to-day work. YOUR DAY-TO-DAY ROLE

  • Effectively coordinate the tracking of cases, deadlines, and schedules;
  • Conduct basic legal searches in various computer databases (SOQUIJ, REQ, land registry, etc.);
  • Prepare and assist professionals in drafting correspondence, pleadings, agreements, and various legal documents;
  • Participate in the opening, tracking, updating, closing, and archiving of physical and electronic files;
  • Compile and manage document requests from third parties;
  • Review and index transcripts;
  • Create and update document indexes;
  • Prepare binders containing authorities, procedures, and commitments;
  • Prepare cost memoranda;
  • Organize and manage case documentation;
  • Review and correct professionals’ billing documents in collaboration with the billing department;
  • Assist professionals in preparing case files and for trials;
  • Perform all other related tasks.

 

ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE

  • Relevant training or experience in legal secretarial work
  • Experience in a legal setting, specifically in civil and commercial litigation (a plus)
  • Fluent in French and proficient in English (regular English-speaking clientele)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Diligence, organization, and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Maître and/or Carpe Diem software (a plus);
  • Ability to multitask effectively
  • Excellent customer service skills and a natural ability to collaborate
