We are seeking a legal assistant specializing in real estate law to join the team at our Montreal office.

 

THE PROFILE THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The successful candidate stands out for her attention to detail and her organizational skills and ability to prioritize, which enable her to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Resourceful and highly customer-focused, she enjoys working as part of a team and remotely, and making a significant contribution to the success of the office and the department.

 

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY ROLE

  • Open, track, update, close, and archive case files
  • Conduct legal research in various computer databases (REQ, Land Registry, RDPRM, SOQUIJ, property taxes, insolvency, etc.)
  • Prepare, review, format, and assist professionals in drafting contracts, agreements, and various legal documents, including loan agreements, mortgage deeds, deeds of sale, resolutions, and other documents related to real estate transactions
  • Draft notarial deeds in Para-Maître and publish these deeds in the Land Registry and the RDPRM
  • Prepare disbursement statements/payment instructions, adjustments, and trust fund requests for loan disbursements
  • Prepare deeds of discharge and release, as well as forms for removal from the RDPRM, mortgage forms (RH), and various deeds (RG)
  • Prepare closing documents and final reports; follow up with clients
  • Communicate with clients and stakeholders involved in the files, follow up, and take appropriate action
  • Actively participate in billing, sending invoices, and preparing monthly expense reports
  • All other related administrative tasks

 

ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE

  • Have appropriate training for the position or relevant work experience
  • Have at least 3 years of experience in real estate law
  • Experience in commercial real estate financing is a plus
  • Excellent command of French and English, both spoken and written (40% of clients are English-speaking)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, DocuSign, and Closing Folders
  • Knowledge of Maître and/or Para-Maître is a plus
  • Knowledge of Consigno is a plus
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
